ScottishPower Heat Pump Saver tariff rates 2026: confirmed rates for every UK DNO region

Ashley · · Updated

ScottishPower Heat Pump Saver has a distinctive midday off-peak window from 11:00–16:00 — when heat pump efficiency is highest. Rates vary by DNO region. This page shows the confirmed figures for every UK region, sourced directly from the tariff database, fixed until April 2027.

Overview

ScottishPower Heat Pump Saver (v1, fixed until April 2027) is a dedicated heat pump tariff with a single midday off-peak window. Unlike most heat pump tariffs that concentrate cheap hours overnight, Heat Pump Saver's window runs from 11:00–16:00 — the warmest part of the day, when heat pump efficiency is highest.

Rate structure:

  • Off-peak: 11:00–16:00 (5 hours/day) — significantly below the standard rate
  • Standard: all other hours — fixed for the tariff term

How the rate structure works

Off-peak window (11:00–16:00): Five hours of cheap electricity in the middle of the day. At 14.00p/kWh, this is competitive with other heat pump tariff off-peak rates. The midday timing is distinctive: outdoor temperatures peak in the early afternoon, meaning heat pumps run more efficiently during the cheap window — a rate discount and a COP bonus at the same time.

The midday window does present a scheduling challenge for hot water: most households heat water in the morning, before the cheap window opens. To capture the full benefit, a midday hot water top-up schedule (for example, 12:00–13:30) is more useful than a single overnight cycle.

Standard rate (all other hours): The standard rate of approximately 30.80p/kWh applies at all other times, including overnight. This is above the current Ofgem standard cap, reflecting the fixed nature of the tariff. Unlike Cosy Octopus, there is no distinct peak rate — the standard rate applies from midnight through to 11am and from 4pm to midnight.

The midday window: distinctive but limited

ScottishPower Heat Pump Saver's midday-only structure is unusual in the UK heat pump tariff market. Most competitors use overnight windows (when grid demand is low) or a combination of overnight and midday. The exclusive midday focus means:

  • Hot water scheduling requires adjustment: Natural hot water use tends to be morning-heavy. Capturing the cheap rate requires moving at least one cylinder reheat cycle to the 11:00–16:00 window.
  • Space heating benefits naturally: On a cold winter day, heat demand builds from mid-morning and peaks in the evening. Running the heat pump at higher output between 11:00 and 16:00 — when the cheap rate and best outdoor COP coincide — and then allowing the home to coast through the early evening is an effective strategy.
  • No overnight cheap rate: Unlike E.ON Next Pumped or EDF FreePhase, there is no overnight discount. Overnight consumption pays the standard rate.

Is ScottishPower Heat Pump Saver right for your home?

Heat Pump Saver is most suited to households that can shift significant consumption — particularly hot water — to the 11:00–16:00 window, and whose heat pump naturally runs hard during midday hours in winter. The absence of an overnight cheap rate means it's better suited to households that can schedule flexibly rather than those relying on overnight-only automation.
