Get £75 When You Switch to EDF Energy in 2026
If someone refers you to EDF before 13 July 2026, you'll get £75 credited to your account. Here's what heat pump owners should know before switching.
Get £75 when you switch to EDF Energy
Until 13 July 2026, EDF is running a refer-a-friend scheme: if an existing EDF customer refers you using their personal link, you get £75 credited to your account
The credit is applied automatically once you've switched and made your first payment. EDF say it typically takes around four weeks from joining for the credit to appear.
Is this worth combining with a heat pump tariff?
EDF's heat pump-specific tariff is FreePhase, a time-of-use tariff with Green, Amber, and Red pricing windows. If you're considering switching to EDF for FreePhase, the £75 referral credit is a useful one-off reduction in your early bills — though it doesn't affect the ongoing unit rates you'll pay.
It's worth being clear on what the credit is and isn't: it's an account credit, not a discount on your tariff rates. Once it's used up, you're on standard FreePhase pricing. So the tariff itself still needs to stack up against the alternatives.
For a full breakdown of what FreePhase actually costs across all 14 DNO regions, see our EDF FreePhase tariff rates page.
What to check before switching
A few things worth confirming before you switch:
- You must be referred by an existing EDF customer — the £75 isn't available if you switch directly without a referral link
- The offer ends 13 July 2026 — switches need to complete before this date
- You can't combine this with other EDF promotional offers — it's one or the other
- Prepayment and PAYG customers can still take part, but need to contact EDF separately once the credit is confirmed
- The credit is cancelled if either party closes their account before it's applied
How does EDF FreePhase compare to other heat pump tariffs?
The referral bonus makes EDF more attractive in the short term, but it shouldn't be the deciding factor. The right tariff depends on your heat pump's running pattern, your DNO region, and how much you use during peak hours.
If you'd like to compare FreePhase against the other specialist heat pump tariffs available — including Cosy Octopus, E.ON Next Pumped, and British Gas Heat Power — our heat pump tariff comparison covers all of them side by side.
You can also run a personalised comparison using your own meter data at Heat Pump Tariffs.
Is EDF a good supplier for heat pump owners?
EDF is one of the larger UK suppliers and has a heat pump-specific tariff in FreePhase. They generate a significant share of the UK's zero-carbon electricity, which may matter if your motivation for running a heat pump includes reducing your carbon footprint.
That said, referral bonuses and supplier reputation are separate questions from whether FreePhase is the cheapest tariff for your specific usage pattern. Our comparison tool uses your actual smart meter data to give you a figure rather than an estimate.
